The Esports Dream: Professional Gaming in Bangladesh
The world is going forward, and people are finding new ways of entertainment and many more. That said, the computer has been a big part of many people living in this era. People are doing so much stuff on their computer and so many of them are choosing gaming as their main source of entertainment. When many people are gaming in the entire world, there must be serious international competition going on. Some gaming companies make games that are competitive, and they are hosting various events internationally where many gamers out there compete to get their name on the board in the history of esports. The number of players in the entire world is rising day by day. Alongside traditional on the field or indoor games these games are also getting popularity and so many players because of their mobility and accessibility. One person just needs a computer with an internet connection, and he can play for fun or compete with many other people in the world even making a whole career out of it and that is what many people find intriguing about this sector of entertainment. It is a win for the viewer, and it is a win for the hard-grinding players also.
The Current Position of Bangladesh in Esports:
The most popularly played games in Bangladesh are PUBG, Free Fire, Mobile legends, COD which are games on mobile platforms. But the mobile platforms games are not immensely popular internationally, it has international recognition, but it is mostly played it the Asian and Chinese regions where pc games are very widespread and played in almost every part of the world so the competition is higher and the chances of making a real career in those games are far more noteworthy than mobile platforms. PUBG mobile is one of the most played games in the country and many teams have also competed internationally such as “A1 Esports” had a great run in most of the tournaments. In Free Fire there were announced many homegroud tournaments and the support was immense too. The young players really enjoyed the scenes of these games very much and the players also showed promising results that they can also be top tier in the games they play. Other mobile games have only started to get fanbase and those are growing rapidly too.
The Challenges Bangladesh Face in Esports:
In the world of competitive PC games Bangladesh is lacking way back than most of the countries that competes despite of having fanbase the player skillset for international tournaments is not there yet. In this sector you require a lot than mobile gaming scenes. Firstly, you need decent specifications for the pcs to even play those games in settings that are professional level, and you need other top end gaming gear as well to put you in an advantage. There are a lot of factors that Bangladesh is facing in terms of competing in those high tiers, not having top gears is only one of them, there is bad internet issue, electricity issue and even the economy also plays a huge role in players not being able to afford what it needs to play in that high tier level because it all becomes too costly. Over the years pc games like CS: GO, Valorant, League of Legends, and console games like FIFA, Forza Horizon and many competitive games have been very much popular in the international gaming community and there are a lot of people in the community who are Bengalis. It is not about the people of Bangladesh is not interested or does not want to play in the highest level, they just face so many issues pursuing these kinds of dreams in this developing economy. Parents in this country still see gaming as a taboo, a massive waste of time and money and thinks it will rot their children's brain and therefore, they will have no future if they choose to pursue this kind of dreams, but the esports history and the other countries result in these competitions says otherwise because many young players has made it their whole career and most of them didn’t even graduated high school. The story of most of these players is so fascinating to witness. So, if other countries can make it happen then we also have the talents to make if only the parents become co-operative and big companies of Bangladesh sponsors these events that are held nationally then many youngsters will be motivated and gain confidence to bring something amazing for the country.
Potential Growth for Esports in Bangladesh:
The current mobile gaming scene in our country has gone high but we need to focus on the pc games and console games as well because that has the most international recognition. There are still so many gaps to fill up in the gaming infrastructure of this country. We need more people in the community to support the streams and streams of our country and despite all the challenges the boys who represent our country internationally should get more support to continue their journey. Investors and businesspeople should also create opportunities for the youngsters to join the community and test out their passion and talent in these different tournaments hosted by them. The players also need skillful international coaches to teach them how to make this journey successfully. If all these barriers are broke, then it is possible for Bangladesh to compete in these international events. Every year different countries win the championship in many games for their country, and it is so inspiring to see how hardworking and passionate they are about winning a trophy for their own country. This year in the Valorant Champions 2024 a Chinese team “EDG” won their first ever international trophy competing against the top best teams from the entire world.
Lastly, I hope that one day Bangladesh will also play in these international stages and lift a trophy, and the story will be so full of inspirations and emotions that the whole country will appreciate.
